As Private Tenants, we want to feel secure in our homes, and not be forced out without good reason. Currently, we can be given ‘notice to quit’ even if we have been living in the property for a long time, paid our rent on time, and generally been a good tenant. This leaves many of us unable to plan for the future, or to put down roots. Many tenants also won’t report repairs issues or the bad practices of some landlords for fear of being uprooted.
Greater security of tenure is commonplace across Europe, but is very limited here in Scotland. We believe increased security of tenure will improve the sector for Scottish tenants, and drive up standards. ‘Home to stay’ is a grass-roots campaign to abolish the insecure ‘short assured tenancies’ in Scotland
